Do you like tanks, tanks, and more tanks, not to mention long range artillery. If this is the case then you really should check out 'World of Tanks'.

http://worldoftanks.com/

Let me tell you just a little bit about it.
- a plethora of tanks from U.S., France, Russia and Germany.
- tank crews that train in skills that you decide.
- researchable modules that improve the skill of the tank itself.
- earn experience with each battle, that can be exchanged for gold (the only free online game I know of that does this).
- join clans for clan vs clan battles.
- ingame voice chat that is enabled within the game itself, therefore no need for any other software running in the background.

There is so much more to this game than what can be mentioned in a short post like this.

One point I would like to expand upon is the conversion of experience to gold concept of the game. In most other free-to-play games out there, you get a basic setup that either levels or caps out at a certain point, and if you want to get a special item within the game, you have to go to the corner store and purchase a card in order to aquire ingame gold, thus forcing you to shell out your hard earned cash. :noway:

In 'World of Tanks' every battle, or game, you participate in earns you experience, as mentioned earlier, well you can convert this earned experience into ingame gold, so you can purchase those items, not to mention premiums, just by playing the game. Money that you earn at work stays in your pocket, :wow1: what a concept.

If you have any question for me about the game just ask away, I'll be happy to answer as best I can. :)

It's quite fun driving tanks in a game....only ever done that in World at War and Battlefield 3 only in Battlefield the controls made it difficult for me.

I think this is something my kids would be interested in. What formats can you play this game on Dale? :)

Well, by formats I'm assuming your asking about OS (operating systems), I'm using xp, and I know it also works in 7, as to Mac or Linux, I can't really say.

As for driving the tanks, it's much simpler than it appears, all tanks in WoT have cruise control, so all you have to do is set it, 3 forward speeds and 2 reverse, and steer, you don't have to worry about having to jump out of the tank and run because the tank is being hit, you ARE the tank. The controls for the game are very simple to learn, it's really just getting to know each individual tanks, and finding out it's qirks.

Alot of games you have to go to a main server, look up what games are being played at the moment and hope you can jump in. When you are ready to do battle in WoT, you hit a big red button in the top center of the screen, it says 'BATTLE' and you are automatically placed into a queue, the longest I've ever waited in queue was about 45 sec.

Here's another interesting note, in the top left of the screen you will see a number, this represents how many people are online and playing at the same time you are. The minimum number I've ever seen it at has been around 9,000, the max I've seen was over 36,000. Now to me that's a popular game, and it's people from all around the world.

Anthing else? :)

I did a little counting in the game as to how many tanks are actually available to the player.

U.S.A. - 42 + 5 one of a kinds (these can not be researched)
France - 18
Germany - 43 + 4 one of a kinds
Russia - 42 + 4 one of a kinds

Total - 154 tanks in all :faint:

Now that alone I call impressive.

Ahh, I see.

Sorry, I haven't played Playstation of any type since I got my PC.

So I guess the answer your looking for is PC, don't really know what game would really match it for the PS3.

Well, well, well, it's been some time since I gave any sort of update on this game, and there have been several changes.

There are now approximately 170+ tanks within the game that are available to all gamers, of course you can't get the higher tier tanks unless you research them, this can take some time but is well worth it.

A couple of maps have been removed because of unfair terrain exploits that was available to teams on a particular side, but there are new maps being implimented on a fairly regular basis, usually when new updates come available, in fact 3 new maps are coming as of this update. Update 7.5 should be coming into effect either by the end of this week or mid of next week.

In the last update, that would be 7.4, they have also implimented 2 new game modes, now rather than just having Team Deathmatch/Capture the Flag there is also Encounter, and Assault:
--Team Deathmatch/Capture the Flag--you either destroy all the members of the opposing team or capture their flag before time runs out, these have a 15 min time limit.
--Encounter--there is a single flag on the map and it is up to one of the teams to either destroy all members of the opposing team or capture the flag, this game has a 10 min time limit.
--Assault--teams start at opposing sides of the map, but one team must defend it's flag against the other team who are trying to capture it, or kill all defending members, again a 10 min limit is imposed.
Now, these may all sound similar, either kill or capture, but the thought that goes into each of the games is totally different, and the results of gameplay is as varied as the number of players on the map at any one time, which by the way is 15 people a side.

New tanks are coming available as well with each update, French artillery, medium tanks, and tier 10 ( the really big boys) tanks.

There are new clans forming on a regular basis as well, I myself am a 'Field Commander' with Armoured Ventetta Clan. A clan that I am proud to a part of, they are good people who, unlike many clans, don't push members into using one particular tank over others they may have in their stable, of which I now own 18 (something that is unique to our clan as well is that from time to time, members with buy and gift tanks to other members of the clan, and birthdays bring something special to each member). We also have a dedicated clan web page, but ours is new and has little to actually offer at this time, but we're working on it. Something that it offers it's members is they're own 'Blog', so that we can keep other's updated on what may be going on or just jot down thoughts and experiences.

My personal blog is named - FineEdge's Follies, Adventures and Exploits of Armoured Vendetta, which I will leave the link to at the bottem of this post. I am using my blog as a writing tool, something that I have been wanting to get back into for some time. It will be a collection of stories based directly on 'World of Tanks', actual maps are used as the backdrop for the stories, and characters within the stories are actual clan members, making it more personal to everyone involved.

As mentioned in earlier posts, the game is completely Free-to-Play, and there are 1,000's of people, from all around the world, that play daily.

Something else that 'World of Tanks' is doing is becoming 'Wargaming.net'. It is becoming a hub for many more wargamers from all around the world because 'World of Tanks' isn't the only endever they are working on. Within the hub, but not yet implemented, will be a total of three independant games:
--World of Tanks
--World of Battleships
--World of Fighterplanes
All three of these will be available to any player who opens up and account. This does not mean that you have to play all three games, but can choose to install and play 1, 2 or all 3. We all know that war is not isolated to one level of play, but involves 'air', 'land', and 'sea' battles. This is an auspisious and inspiring endevour that they are shouldering, and we hope that it all turns out be as sucessful and the original 'World of Tanks' game.

I hope that you have found this post interesting, and possible intriguing and thought provoking, it has become a game that I very much enjoy playing, and have met some wonderful people that I play with on a regular basis.

If by chance any of you feel like you would like to try this game out, I think that you'll be surprised as to how simple the gameplay is, but to master it is something all together different; stategy, logical thinking and working as a group all come into play in each game, but as you progress in the game and research new and more powerful tanks, the mechanics still remain the same, but rewards, achievements and the satisfaction of being able to out-think, out-maneuver, and out-gun another player will make it all worth while.

Finally, if you are ever ingame, and you are looking for a friendly face, you can search contacts. Just key in FineEdge60 and you will find me, and if the opportunity arises, we may even be able to 'Platoon' together as well, sounds like fun to me. My motto in the game is 'Have fun, happy hunting, and my you turn lots of heavy metal into scrap iron.'

And finally, here is the link to my personal blog, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it  :

Well Micky, if you do, it would be nice to see you ingame. One thing, don't be too dissappointed with the initial tanks that you recieve, they are of the lowest tier, and not very powerful at all, but as noted above, the higher ranks are where the most satisfaction comes in, oh, and one more thing, expect to die fairly often, but I will say this, once you get that first kill in, it feels great and makes you want to get out there and do it again, and again, and again.

Tanks rule, no blood and guts, but lots of flaming hulks scattered around the map by the end of the game.
